Klay Thompson and Harrison Barnes are Warriors' Rising Stars

Klay Thompson, Golden State Warriors
Following a night in which he helped fill in for injured teammates contributing to a win over the Cleveland Cavaliers, Warriors guard Klay Thompson was one of 18 players chosen for the Rising Stars Challenge in Houston on Feb. 15. Rookie teammate Harrison Barnes also made the cut to represent the Warriors in the game featuring top rookies and second-year players. Charles Barkley and Shaquille O’Neal will again serve as general managers and draft teams during TNT’s pregame show Feb. 7. Read More

Klay Thompson shines as Golden State Warriors beat Cleveland Cavaliers without star players

Klay Thompson, Golden State Warriors
CLEVELAND — Klay Thompson scored a career-high 32 points and the short-handed Warriors beat the Cleveland Cavaliers 108-95 on Tuesday night. The Warriors were missing three starters — guard Stephen Curry (ankle), center Andrew Bogut (ankle) and forward Harrison Barnes (knee). Also, Carl Landry, one of the first players off Golden State’s bench, didn’t play because of a shoulder injury. Read More

David Lee scores 21 as Warriors beat Raptors 114-102

David Lee, Golden State Warriors
This was the lineup the Warriors have been waiting for. All they need now is to keep everyone healthy. David Lee had 21 points and 12 rebounds, Stephen Curry scored 17 points before leaving with an injury, and the Warriors beat the Toronto Raptors 114-102 on Monday night. Andrew Bogut returned from a 38-game absence to score 12 points as the Warriors earned their first victory in four games against Eastern Conference opponents this month. Read More

David Lee first Warrior to make NBA All-Star team since 1997

David Lee
At long last, the Warriors have an All-Star. Forward David Lee became the franchise’s first All-Star since Latrell Sprewell in 1997 as the NBA unveiled the reserves for the Feb. 17 game in Houston. Lee, 29, is averaging 19.6 points and 10.8 rebounds per game and has been instrumental in Golden State’s surprising 26-15 record this season. Read More

Warriors topple division-leading Clippers 106-99

Jarrett Jack, golden state warriors
Stephen Curry took some good-natured ribbing from his Warriors teammates following an impromptu celebration near the bench late in fourth quarter against the Los Angeles Clippers. Few teams have caused more problems this season for the Pacific Division leaders than the Warriors, and Curry has been a major reason why. Curry made four 3-pointers in the fourth quarter and Golden State rallied from seven points down in the final 11 minutes to beat the Clippers 106-99 on Monday. Read More

Warriors look to snap out of slump tonight against Miami Heat

One would think playing the defending NBA champions on the road would be a tougher task than playing them in your own gym. The Warriors, however, are on a different sort of streak now than when they went into Miami on Dec. 12. Golden State had won the first four games of a lengthy road trip and beat the Heat 97-95 on a last-minute score by Draymond Green. Now, Golden State has lost three of its past four during a tough January schedule that includes nine games against likely playoff teams. They welcome the Heat to Oracle Arena tonight. Read More

David Lee could put end to the Warriors’ All-Star drought

When he worked as a broadcaster, Mark Jackson was adamant that David Lee didn’t deserve to be an All-Star with the New York Knicks in 2010. No matter how eye-popping Lee’s statistics looked, Jackson said, the power forward played on a bad Knicks team. Now Jackson is coaching Lee on the Warriors, and he has changed his tune — but not his reasoning. The Warriors are winning, he said, and Lee has been a big reason why. “So I’ve got to be one of the guys now that he’s on a good team putting up numbers,” Jackson said, “shouting to everybody that he deserves it.” Read More

Fourth-quarter lead evaporates as Nuggets charge past Warriors

Wilson Chandler returned after a two-month absence due to hip problems with a strong effort on both sides of the ball for the Denver Nuggets. Chandler scored 14 points in 21 minutes, tops among Denver’s reserves, and had two steals to key a big fourth-quarter run as the Nuggets rallied past the Warriors 116-105 Sunday night for their season-high fifth straight win. Warriors look to snap back against Grizzlies

Oh, how things can change so quickly in the NBA. A week ago, the Warriors were riding high after routing the Pacific Division-leading Los Angeles Clippers. Just days later, the Clippers returned the favor in a 115-89 throttling, sending Golden State to its worst loss of the campaign. The Warriors haven’t lost back-to-back games all season and attempt to avoid a second straight loss when they host the Memphis Grizzlies today. Read More

Warriors have gone from pretenders to contenders

andrew bogut
More than a third of the season has passed, and the Warriors have emerged as the most surprising story in the NBA. They have compiled a 21-10 record, shown the ability to win on the road and dramatically improved defensively. The secret is out. The Warriors are for real. At this point, there is enough of a sample size to say anything less than a playoff spot would be a disappointment. Golden State has started off seasons with promise before, so skepticism is expected. One playoff berth since 1994 has a way of making doubting as natural as blinking. Read More
