‘Sparkplug’ Jack helps Golden State Warriors notch third straight victory

Jarrett Jack
MINNEAPOLIS — Jarrett Jack has been a rock-steady pro for eight years now, the kind of reliable performer contending teams crave. Even though he is still coming off the bench for the Warriors, he’s found himself in more of a starring role lately, and he showed the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday that he is equally comfortable as the leader of a playoff-caliber unit. Jack had 23 points and eight assists to rally the Warriors to a 100-99 victory over the Timberwolves. Read More

Warriors trade Tyler, Jenkins to get under tax

Jeremy Tyler
OAKLAND — Warriors general manager Bob Myers saved some money and created future financial flexibility for the franchise at the NBA’s trading deadline. Parting ways with two young players came at another cost. The Warriors traded forward Jeremy Tyler to the Atlanta Hawks and guard Charles Jenkins to the Philadelphia 76ers in separate salary-shedding deals Thursday to get under the league’s luxury tax. Golden State received cash and a protected second-round pick from Philadelphia and cash and future draft considerations from Atlanta. Read More

Warriors hope second half offers chance to regain form

golden state warriors
The Warriors are hoping to emerge from the long All-Star break as a different team. Golden State will be attempting to snap a five-game losing streak when they visit the Utah Jazz today. Golden State was one of the best stories of the first half as it ascended to the top half of the West and knocked off several contenders along the way. But the road has not been very kind recently and the Warriors have lost their last six games to teams that would be in the playoffs if the season ended today. Read More

David Lee's ability to score and hit the glass led to All-Star spot

OAKLAND — David Lee is a walking double-double. He leads the NBA in the statistical category this season with 33 in 52 games, and his career numbers are just shy of the mark at 14.7 points and 9.7 rebounds per game. But Lee is often overlooked, accused of producing bloated stats on losing teams in New York and here in the Bay Area. Prior to this season, an anonymous scout in Sports Illustrated blasted him, saying he is “overrated” and “looking for his own numbers big-time.” Read More

Golden State Warriors are a team built to last

At this point last year, the Warriors appeared to be stuck in no-man’s land. They had three quality players — Stephen Curry, David Lee and Monta Ellis — but were well on their way to missing the playoffs for the 17th time in 18 years. On top of that, they weren’t even bad enough to land one of the draft’s top three picks, where superstars such as LeBron James, Tim Duncan and Anthony Davis are usually selected. Read More

The last thing the Warriors need to see after a disastrous four-game road trip is the Houston Rockets. But the Rockets, who matched an NBA record with 23 3-pointers and put up 140 points on the Warriors in the opener of that road trip a week ago, will be at Golden State tonight. The Warriors went on to lose those four games by a total of 83 points and are enduring their longest slide of the season. Read More
