Carson Palmer has horrible homecoming, Raiders lose to Bengals 34-10

Carson Palmer
The purplish bruises on the back of Carson Palmer's passing shoulder and the nasty red scrape down the middle of his back vividly summed up his horrid homecoming. The Bengals made it painful for Palmer all-around. Andy Dalton threw three touchdown passes against Oakland's dreadful defense, and the Cincinnati Bengals showed their former franchise quarterback that they've moved on without him, beating the Raiders 34-10 on Sunday. "Not a lot went right, from start to finish," Palmer said. Read More

Raiders Carson Palmer takes on former team Cincinnati Bengals

For 15 long seasons, the drought endured. The Cincinnati Bengals, since their last playoff appearance and winning season in 1990, had toiled in football hell. Then Carson Palmer arrived. And come today in Cincy, Palmer will arrive again. “I have a pretty good feeling how that’s gonna go,” Palmer said, smirking, of the reception he’ll receive when he takes on his former team — a team he quarterbacked to two postseasons in 2005 and 2009. Frustration mounts for struggling Raiders

Coach Dennis Allen agrees with Oakland owner Mark Davis’ assessment that the Raiders have regressed in recent weeks and he is going to do what it takes to turn the team around. The Raiders (3-7) have lost three straight games following Sunday’s 38-17 home loss to New Orleans that led to booing and early departures by the frustrated fans. Davis met in the locker room after the game with Allen and general manager Reggie McKenzie and said he was embarrassed by the team’s play and apologized to the fans. Read More

Latest loss to Saints leaves Raiders owner fuming

As Raiders fans filed out of the Coliseum early in the fourth quarter, the few who remained showered the home team with boos. Not exactly the sight or sound owner Mark Davis had envisioned when he talked about a new direction. Read More

High-powered Saints visit struggling Raiders

The New Orleans Saints have overcome an 0-4 start and the distractions from the bounty scandal to fight their way right back into position for a possible late-season playoff run. First they have to get their record back to .500. All that stands between the high-powered Saints and that modest goal is a struggling Raiders team that has allowed 97 points the past two weeks and matched a franchise-worst for points allowed in last week’s 55-20 loss at Baltimore. Palmer adds responsibility with Raiders' defense struggling

Carson Palmer knows he will have to have a big day to get the Raiders back on the winning track. With a defense that has allowed 97 points the past two weeks, a running game decimated by injuries and the high-powered New Orleans Saints offense led by Drew Brees coming to town, the Raiders (3-6) will be counting on Palmer even more than usual. “Being a quarterback you don’t want to think that,” Palmer said Wednesday. “You still want to go through your reads.”” Read More

Raiders coach Dennis Allen says defense ‘unacceptable’

It’s the run defense one game, the pass defense the next and the running game almost every week that is holding the Raiders back. The problems keep mounting almost as fast as the point total for the opposition. A week after being gashed on the ground by Doug Martin and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Raiders were taken apart through the air by Joe Flacco and the Baltimore Ravens in a 55-20 loss Sunday that matched a franchise worst for points allowed in a game. Hamstring injury could keep Raiders' Seymour out of action

Trying to stop Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice was already a monumental task facing the Raiders this week. Doing it without seven-time Pro Bowl defensive lineman Richard Seymour will make the challenge even more daunting. Seymour missed his second straight practice Thursday due to a lingering hamstring injury and is questionable to play in Baltimore on Sunday. The 12th-year veteran was already on a light practice schedule as a result of his troublesome knees. Read More

Raiders’ run defense faces another challenge in Ravens’ Rice

Ray Rice watched film of the Raiders’ game against Tampa Bay last week and nearly jumped out his chair in anticipation of facing a defense that yielded four touchdowns and 251 yards rushing to rookie Doug Martin. “Obviously, you look at it and you start to get excited when you see it happening,” Rice said. “Anybody goes over 200 yards, you have to figure there is a problem there.” Read More

With running backs ailing, Raiders' Palmer will be counted on

Carson Palmer could be in for another busy day for the Oakland Raiders. With top two running backs Darren McFadden and Mike Goodson slowed this week by sprained right ankles, the Raiders may need to rely on their passing game when they visit the Baltimore Ravens. Palmer threw the ball 61 times last week against Tampa Bay as the Raiders (3-5) were forced to play catch-up in the second half after losing McFadden and Goodson to the injuries. Neither back practiced Wednesday and their status remains in doubt for Sunday’s game against the Ravens (6-2). Read More
