Raiders rookie receiver Rod Streater impresses

Rod Streater spent last December preparing with Temple for the New Mexico Bowl, what he believed would be the final football game of his career. With only 19 catches as a senior, Streater understandably drew little notice from NFL scouts and was resigned to pursuing a career with his degree in communications and public relations. Just a year later, Streater is proving he belongs in the NFL as he has become a trusted target for Raiders quarterback Carson Palmer and a key part of the Raiders’ future. Read More

Rolando McClain returns, will remain with Oakland Raiders

Raiders linebacker Rolando McClain met with coach Dennis Allen before returning to practice Wednesday after serving a two-game suspension for conduct detrimental to the team. Allen would not discuss details of the meeting but said McClain would remain on the roster in a backup role after starting nine games this year before his suspension. “I laid out exactly what the expectations are for him moving forward,” Allen said. “Really, that’s about it. We’re moving on from there. Rolando’s part of this team and we’re going to move on.” Read More

Raiders shuffle roster, reinstate McClain, cut Bartell, Schmitt

The Raiders reinstated linebacker Rolando McClain from the suspended list on Monday and cut starting cornerback Ron Bartell in the team’s latest roster shake-up. The Raiders (3-10) also cut backup fullback Owen Schmitt and promoted cornerback Chimdi Chekwa from the practice squad as they plan to get a better look at young players down the stretch of another disappointing season. Peyton Manning leads Broncos past Raiders 26-13

After overwhelming another overmatched division rival, Peyton Manning and the streaking Denver Broncos can turn their attention to much more meaningful opponents. Broncos bring renewed club to Oakland to face floundering Raiders

Just a year ago, Denver and Oakland went to the end of the season in the race for the AFC West title, with the Broncos edging the Raiders for first place on the final day by winning a three-team tiebreaker with San Diego. Now the teams couldn’t be further apart. The Broncos (9-3) are riding a seven-game winning streak into tonight’s game in Oakland having already wrapped up the division title. They are spending the last month worried about playoff positioning and staying healthy for the postseason. Read More

Raiders prepare for Broncos without coach Dennis Allen

Being mired in a five-game losing streak with a short week to get ready for Peyton Manning and the first-place Denver Broncos is tough enough. The Raiders have to do it without their coach. Dennis Allen left the team after Sunday’s 20-17 loss to Cleveland to be with his father, who has a serious medical issue. Allen is expected to rejoin the team on Wednesday night and be on the field Thursday when the Raiders (3-9) host the Broncos (9-3). Read More

Raiders’ losing skid hits five games

The problems piling up for Raiders first-year coach Dennis Allen are so vast and varied that it could take months — if not years — for the franchise to be fixed. Instead, Oakland has three days, and Allen won’t be around for most of them. After the Raiders lost 20-17 to the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, Allen headed to the Dallas-Fort Worth area to be with his gravely ill father, Grady. The team said Allen will return to Oakland late Wednesday to coach against Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos on Thursday night. Read More

Rebuilding Raiders and Browns still struggling for an identity

Dennis Allen
If change is truly the one constant in the modern NFL, the Cleveland Browns and Raiders just might be the epitome of it. Less than 14 months after their last meeting, the longtime AFC rivals have each undergone their own kind of overhaul heading into today’s meeting in Oakland. Read More

Raiders linebacker Rolando McClain’s status still up in the air

Linebacker Rolando McClain remained a member of the Raiders on Thursday despite being told to stay out of practice for a second straight day and not to report to the team facility. The former first-round pick is stuck in limbo a day after being sent out of practice by coach Dennis Allen for undisclosed reasons. “There’s going to be consequences to his actions and it’s a team-related issue,” Allen said. “I don’t really want to get into the details of it. We asked him not to come to practice today.” Read More

Darren McFadden, Mike Goodson return to practice for Raiders

The slumping Raiders got a jolt Wednesday when running backs Darren McFadden and Mike Goodson returned to practice for the first time since missing three games with sprained right ankles. Both backs got hurt in Oakland’s 42-32 loss to Tampa Bay on Nov. 4 and were finally cleared to return to practice this week. That loss started the Raiders (3-8) on a four-game losing streak that is the team’s longest in four years. Read More
