Raiders uncertain of their starting QB in finale after Carson Palmer's injury

Raiders coach Dennis Allen isn’t ready to select a starting quarterback for Sunday’s game in San Diego and said it’s possible that both Matt Leinart and Terrelle Pryor could play. Leinart and Pryor shared reps in practice with Oakland’s first-team offense during practice, three days after starter Carson Palmer went out with cracked ribs and a bruised lung after being hit from behind by Carolina Panthers defensive end Greg Hardy. Allen said Wednesday that Leinart and Pryor split the workload during practice, but Pryor later said Leinart took the majority of reps. Read More

Palmer hurt early in Raiders' loss to Panthers

Carson Palmer has been one of the best things in a disappointing season for the Raiders. So when the Raiders’ veteran quarterback was knocked out in the first quarter of Sunday’s 17-6 loss to the Carolina Panthers, the team’s chances of winning took a big hit. After being flushed from the pocket, Palmer set up to throw when Panthers defensive end Greg Hardy came barreling into him from behind and delivered a vicious blow to the middle of his back. Raiders will need to slow down surging Panther's Cam Newton

Cam Newton is on a torrid pace and the Carolina Panthers are headed toward another strong finish they hope will save coach Ron Rivera’s job. The second-year QB is in the best stretch of his young NFL career with 13 combined touchdowns and no interceptions in the past five games. Read More

Raiders QB Terrelle Pryor to have role this week

After spending most of the season on the bench, Terrelle Pryor has been playing a key role this week for the Raiders by impersonating Cam Newton in practice. Pryor could have an even higher-profile role come game time Sunday against the Carolina Panthers. Offensive coordinator Greg Knapp says Pryor will get on the field in certain specialty packages for the Raiders (4-10). Read More

Raiders running back Mike Goodson eager to face former team

Raiders running back Mike Goodson is looking forward to playing in Carolina for the first time since being traded by the Panthers in the offseason. He just doesn’t know what type of reception to expect. Goodson, who spent his first three NFL seasons with Carolina, still owns property there and routinely talks to some of his former teammates. Make no mistake, however. While he remains on friendly terms with his former club, Goodson definitely wants to make a point to the Panthers. Read More

New era, but same old Raiders

As the calendar is set to turn from 2012 to 2013, the Bay Area is basking in pro sports glory. The Niners have locked up another playoff spot, the Giants are reveling in their World Series win and the A’s are still soaked in Champagne from their run to the AL West crown. Even the seemingly always-dreadful Warriors are off to their best start in years. The most consistent franchise, the Sharks, would probably be winning too, if they were playing. The one black eye in the Bay Area? The Raaaiders. “Just win, baby,” has turned into, “Just take it on the chin, baby.” Read More

Despite shutout, Raiders seek consistency on defense

Jamaal Charles had nowhere to run, Brady Quinn was under pressure all day and the Raiders defense posted its most statistically dominating performance in decades. Coach Dennis Allen said that kind of game proves what the Raiders are capable of defensively when they play to their ability. The key now is doing that more often. “We’ve proven that we can do it at times, but we’ve got to be more consistent at it,” Allen said Monday. “That will be our challenge moving forward.” Read More

Raiders take on Kansas City Chiefs with hope of a finally getting home win

Normally, a visit from the 2-11 Kansas City Chiefs would put a smile on the opposition face. But that might not be the case for the Raiders today. The Chiefs, led by red-hot running back Jamaal Charles, have dominated the Raiders at the Coliseum, having won eight of their past nine games in Oakland, and look to keep it going today. The Raiders have dropped six in a row and their last win came in Kansas City, when they limited Charles to four yards on five carries on the way to a 26-16 decision in Week 8. Read More

Raiders rookie receiver Rod Streater impresses

Rod Streater spent last December preparing with Temple for the New Mexico Bowl, what he believed would be the final football game of his career. With only 19 catches as a senior, Streater understandably drew little notice from NFL scouts and was resigned to pursuing a career with his degree in communications and public relations. Just a year later, Streater is proving he belongs in the NFL as he has become a trusted target for Raiders quarterback Carson Palmer and a key part of the Raiders’ future. Read More
