The 49ers parted ways with six-time Pro Bowl kicker David Akers on Wednesday as they released the 14-year veteran. “He is a true professional who represented himself and this organization with class. We wish him, and his family, all the best,” 49ers general manager Trent Baalke said in a

San Francisco elected not to place the franchise tag on two-time Pro Bowler Dashon Goldson before Monday’s deadline to do so, making the hard-hitting safety an unrestricted free agent when the new league calendar begins March 12. Goldson has expressed a desire for a long-term contract after he earned $6.2 million under the franchise tag during the 49ers’ run to the Super Bowl.
