SANTA CLARA — Once the shock of being traded from the Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens wore off, Anquan Boldin called Colin Kaepernick to get a feel for the 49ers’ young quarterback.
The two have spoken several times since then, and Kaepernick can probably expect a few more calls between now and offseason workouts.
Boldin doesn’t want anything preventing him from settling in quickly, and getting on the same page with his quarterback was the perfect starting point.

The 49ers parted ways with six-time Pro Bowl kicker David Akers on Wednesday as they released the 14-year veteran.
“He is a true professional who represented himself and this organization with class. We wish him, and his family, all the best,” 49ers general manager Trent Baalke said in a
statement.
In two seasons with the 49ers, Akers compiled 297 points — the most in the NFL during that span. He made 73 of 94 field-goal attempts and all 78 PATs.

The NFC champion 49ers could be in the market for a new starting safety.
San Francisco elected not to place the franchise tag on two-time Pro Bowler Dashon Goldson before Monday’s deadline to do so, making the hard-hitting safety an unrestricted free agent when the new league calendar begins March 12.
Goldson has expressed a desire for a long-term contract after he earned $6.2 million under the franchise tag during the 49ers’ run to the Super Bowl. Placing the tag on Goldson again would have cost the Niners $7.45 million next season.
