Five 49ers games set for prime time this season

Reaching the Super Bowl has its perks, and one of them is an increased demand for the national spotlight. The reigning NFC champion 49ers will get plenty of national exposure in the 2013 season, as five of their games will be played in prime-time. SANTA CLARA — San Francisco 49ers defensive tackle Justin Smith and linebacker Aldon Smith are working back from offseason surgeries, and general manager Trent Baalke expects each to be at full strength and ready for the start of training camp this summer.Running back Kendall Hunter, who underwent surgery late in the season for a torn left Achilles, also plans to be full go by training camp after he recently resumed sprint work. The San Francisco 49ers will make a bid next month to host the 50th Super Bowl in 2016, and announced today that they are bringing in a couple of stars from the franchise's illustrious history to help out. Former quarterback Steve Young and coach George Seifert are joining the San Francisco Bay Area regional bid committee to host Super Bowl L at the 49ers' new stadium in Santa Clara, which opens next year. 49ers will face off against Alex Smith, Kansas City Chiefs in preseason

The 49ers won’t have to wait long to get a glimpse at former quarterback Alex Smith. The NFL announced preseason schedules Thursday, and the 49ers will take a trip to Kansas City in the second week of the preseason to face Smith and his new team the Chiefs. After Colin Kaepernick took over for the injured Smith midseason in 2012, he sparked the 49ers on a run that ended with a loss to the Baltimore Ravens in the Super Bowl. SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Free agent cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha reached agreement on a one-year contract with the San Francisco 49ers on Tuesday that could pay him as much as $3 million this year. Asomugha's representative, Ben Dogra, said that Asomugha is expected to sign his new deal Wednesday. Former West Virginia and Miami Dolphins quarterback Pat White worked out for the 49ers, a league source confirmed Thursday. Given quarterback Colin Kaepernick’s unique skill set, the need for a backup with a similar ability is pressing. Enter White, who participated in a private workout at the 49ers’ facility. The former second-round pick out of West Virginia hasn’t played a in the NFL since 2009, but that didn’t deter 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh from kicking the tires on White. Read More

Safety Darcel McBath signs one-year deal

The 49ers signed free-agent safety and special teams standout Darcel McBath to a one-year contract, adding depth to the secondary. McBath is the second safety added by Super Bowl runner-up San Francisco since the start of free agency. The NFC champion Niners signed Craig Dahl to a three-year contract Saturday, another move to help fill the void left when Dashon Goldson received a five-year deal from Tampa Bay last week.
