Authorities in Northern California have canceled a statewide Amber Alert issued after an apparent carjacking and kidnapping of a driver and teenage girl outside a supermarket.

The California Highway Patrol deactivated the alert Wednesday afternoon after Oakland police said they're no longer looking for a four-door red sedan that triggered the search.

The alleged carjacking occurred Tuesday in a Safeway parking lot when witnesses said a man with a knife commandeered a red, four-door sedan with an older man and a 13-year-old girl inside.

A police spokeswoman, Officer Johnna Watson, says all three people in the car know each other and police have determined the reports of a carjacking and kidnapping are unfounded.

Watson says the girl inside the car is actually an adult. Police are still looking for her and a suspected shoplifter, 54-year-old Roy McCamey of Oakland.
