A’s add former Giants reliever Yusmeiro Petit

The Oakland Athletics added former San Francisco Giants reliever Yusmeiro Petit on Wednesday, agreeing to a two-year, $10 million contract with the right-handed reliever. The deal also includes a club option for 2020, according to MLB Network’s Ken Rosenthal..

Petit, who pitched for the Giants from 2012-2015, is coming off a career year with the Los Angeles Angels. Petit had a 2.76 ERA over 91 1/3 innings in 2017, striking out 101 batters while walking just 18.

The Venezuelan right-hander, who turned 33 last week, pitched at least two innings in 21 of his 60 appearances with the Angels. Petit should provide key relief innings for a young Oakland pitching staff. In 2017, no Athletics pitcher threw more than Sean Manaea’s 158 2/3 innings.
