49ers make Jimmy Garoppolo their franchise QB with record deal

The prayers of the Faithful have been answered. Jimmy Garoppolo will be the 49ers’ quarterback for the long term.

The team signed him to a five-year, $137.5 million contract on Thursday, according to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network. The Niners knew they’d have to pay up and they did with the largest per-year contract in league history. The team made it official later in the day Thursday. There will be a press conference Friday.

Garoppolo was a revelation for the previously downtrodden franchise since general manager John Lynch traded a second round pick for him before the 2017 trade deadline.

He’s undefeated as a starter in the NFL and now that he’s under terms, the team can focus on filling the rest of the holes on the roster this offseason with eyes toward the playoffs next year.
