Looking forward to the bulk of awards season, here’s The Examiner’s annual highly unscientific roundup of the year’s best films. Interestingly and unusually, the superhero movie “Black Panther” starring Chadwick Boseman in the title role not only topped the box office (earning $1.34 billion worldwide), it made the lists of four critics. Other favorites admired by four writers surveyed include “If Beale Street Could Talk,” director Barry Jenkins’ sensitive adaptation of James Baldwin’s novel of the same name, and Alfonso Cuarón’s meditation on Mexico, “Roma.”
