The Lowell High School  Cardinals won the 117th CIF San Francisco Section championship on Wednesday by beating Balboa High School 6-4.

Lowell overcame Balboa in the  top of the seventh and final inning when Joe Solomon hit a two-run double and Adam Gardi singled home a run.

Balboa trailed for most of the game but came back in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game, 3-3, on a Jacob Wong single. But the Buccaneers weren’t able to prevent Lowell from winning its 17th city title.

The high school players took the field at AT&T Park shortly after Buster Posey’s game-winning walk prevented the San Francisco Giants from a three-game sweep to the Toronto Blue Jays. (Emma Chiang/Special to S.F. Examiner)
