The San Francisco Police Department Academy is graduating 35 new recruits on Friday, who collectively speak eleven languages other than English. Graduates of the new class speak Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, Dari, Pashto, Farsi, Hindi, Urdu, Russian, French, and American Sign Language.

In addition, the group of recruits includes members who have served in the US Army, the US Coast Guard, the US Air Force, and the US Marine Corps.

In prior careers, the officers worked in the SF Sheriff’s Department, security firms, counseling, programming, and crime analysis.

The graduation ceremony for the new recruits will take place at the Scottish Rite Auditorium on Friday evening. After the graduation, the officers will start 16 weeks of field training at The City’s district stations.
